Global warming is real and a threat to the world's animal population. The year 2004 was the fourth hottest on record, extending a trend since 1990. If we continue to emit greenhouse gases at our current pace, our earth's temperature is projected to skyrocket by as much as 10º F in the next 100 years.

Use compact florescent lights rather than incandescent. They cost more but save you money down the road and conserve energy.

Brevard Zoo receives FISH Friday donation from Osler Medical and The B.A.C.K Center

On Friday, November 11, 2009, Osler Medical Center (OMC) and the B.A.C.K. Center (TBC) collected money on Quarterly Jean Day celebrating FISH Friday. Jeans are allowed to be worn by the employees who pay a fee of $5. The money collected is then donated to an organization or family in need nominated by an employee.

Brevard Zoo was nominated by Brevard Zoo volunteer Annie Egry, also an employee of OMC/TBC. On this day, employees were also allowed to wear Zoo T-shirts or animal print shirts. A total of $487.75 was collected. To encourage people to participate, Brevard Zoo donated admission tickets for a drawing. Any OMC/TBC employee who donated to the Zoo was then put into the drawing. Cheryl Faulkner, a phone operator at TBC, was the winner.

Harris volunteers help build Paws On

As part of the reconstruction of the new Paws On, some 81 Harris volunteers spent several days landscaping, painting a whale, building fences, and creating activities for children. They also placed signs, built a beach, dug post holes, and set poles in huge holes. Harris volunteers alone contributed more than 570 hours to the Paws On project.
