Category: Keeper NewsNew Births at the ZooThis April and May, several animals were born at the Zoo. Three male Visayan Warty pigs were born April 12 and just went out on exhibit over Mother's Day. The pigs can be seen in the Austral-Asia loop. We had our first pair of Golden-headed lion tamarins born April 30. These tiny monkeys are riding on the back of mom and dad across from the Spider monkeys in the La Selva loop. And, one Sandhill Crane chick was born May 3. The crane is on exhibit in Wild Florida. Baby Lemurs Born at the ZooA pair of Black and White Ruffed Lemurs were born a few weeks ago to parents Sriracha and Nowi on Lemur Island in Expedition Africa. The Zoo's Africa kayaking experience takes you past Lemur Island, so consider taking a kayak ride to see them. Baby Giraffe Out on ExhibitOur newest baby giraffe, born March 3, is now out on exhibit. The male masai was born to Johari and Raffiki. You can catch a glimpse of him at the Africa platform in the Expedition Africa section of the Zoo. This is Johari’s third birth. Melvin was born four years ago on March 15, 2006. Stephanie was born March 11, 2008. Johari is 10 years old, born January 2000 at the San Diego Zoological Garden. Raffiki, the male Masai giraffe, will be 12 years old this July. :: Next >> |
