Harris Corporation Charitable Fund Awards $500,000 Grant to Brevard Zoo for Animal Care CenterBrevard Zoo received a $500,000 grant from the Harris Corporation Charitable Fund of the Community Foundation for Brevard. The grant goes towards building the new Animal Care Center currently under construction. This new, state-of-the-art veterinary facility is 9,500-square-foot and will serve more than 560 animals representing 170 different species at the Zoo.The new facility to be named the Harris Corporation Animal Care Center will have x-ray, treatment and intensive care rooms; a lab and a pharmacy; and a large surgery suite with adjacent "scrub" facilities and offices. It also will house a commissary to support the diet and nutrition needs of the Zoo's residents, and will enhance ongoing research and conservation efforts. The new center will help augment the Zoo's successful educational programs, play a key role in maintaining the Zoo's accreditation and help carry out its mission of "Wildlife Conservation through Education and Participation." |
