Global warming is real and a threat to the world's animal population. The year 2004 was the fourth hottest on record, extending a trend since 1990. If we continue to emit greenhouse gases at our current pace, our earth's temperature is projected to skyrocket by as much as 10º F in the next 100 years.

Volunteer Programs

Brevard Zoo welcomes you to take part in its Zoo Volunteer Program. As a community Zoo, we encourage public involvement designed to aid our Zoo in all aspects of operation. Since the Zoo is a non-profit organization, we are dependent upon and very grateful to our volunteers, who help with everything from special events to educational programs. We know that working directly with animals is not everyone's goal, so we have tailored a program that we feel will offer something for everyone.

The Brevard Zoo needs your help in the following areas:

  • Expedition Africa
  • Aviary
  • Landscaping
  • Gift Shop
  • Administrative Support
  • Greeter
  • Contact Yard
  • Kayaking
  • Education Animal Care
  • Animal Handling

These areas require special training and a commitment of at least 6 months of service. High school students 16 and older are also welcome to apply. Those who can commit to a minimum of 6 months of service can apply for a long-term position.

For more information on what the volunteer positions above entail, please click here.

The Zoo also needs your help for the many special events held each year. After attendance at an  Informational Session and a Special Event Orientation Session, you'll be set to give your time while having lots of fun. Those wanting to fulfill a community service requirement can become special events volunteers.

Volunteer Informational Sessions

Volunteer Informational Sessions are held the second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Education Building at the Zoo. This Information Session is the first step into joining the volunteer program and each session lasts about 2 hours.
